Top Ten Most Popular Cat Breeds

There will be forty one recognized cat breeds based on the Cat Fanciers' Association, the world's largest registry of pedigree cats. The various cat breeds possess a lot of varying characteristics but all make great pets inside the appropriate home. Although this is not necessarily a listing of the very best breed of cat, here are the ten preferred cat breeds in America in 2008 based on the Cat Fanciers' Association.

Maine Coons' activity level is average relative with other cats. They have been shown to become relatively easy cats to handle and quiet. 
  • Siamese - The Siamese is really a medium cat breed. It features a svelte body type and a brief coat which requires a minimal level of grooming. The Siamese's activity level is extremely high relative with other cats. They have been shown to become relatively difficult cats to handle and really vocal. 
  • Abyssinian - Abyssinians are a little cat breed. The Abyssinian includes a slender body type and a brief coat which requires a substandard level of pet grooming. Abyssinians' activity level is extremely high. They have been shown to become relatively difficult cats to handle but relatively quiet. 
  • Ragdoll - Ragdolls are a big cat breed. The Ragdoll includes a moderate body type and an extended coat which requires an above average level of grooming. Ragdolls' activity level is fairly low relative with other cats. They have been shown to become relatively easy cats to handle and quiet. 
  • Sphynx - The Sphynx is really a medium cat breed. It features a moderate body type and a brief coat which requires a typical level of pet grooming. The Sphynx activity level is high relative with other cats. They have been shown to become relatively easy cats to handle but vocal talkers. 
  • American Shorthair - American Shorthairs are a big cat breed. The American Shorthair includes a semi-cobby body type and a brief coat which requires a substandard level of grooming. American Shorthairs' activity level is fairly low. They have been shown to become relatively average cats to handle and quiet. 
  • Birman - Birmans are a big cat breed. The Birman includes a moderate body type and an extended coat which requires a typical level of pet grooming. Birmans' activity level is fairly low. They have been shown to become relatively easy cats to handle and quiet. 
  • Oriental - Orientals are a little cat breed. The Oriental includes a svelte body type and a brief or medium length coat which requires a minimal or substandard level of grooming. Oriental Shorthairs' activity level is extremely high relative with other cats. They have been shown to become relatively difficult cats to handle and really vocal talkers.
